Mmatsheko Mosito: A Journey Through Sound and Purpose

Mmatsheko Mosito

Seventeen years in radio and it is more than just a career—it’s a journey of passion, purpose, and self-discovery. For Mmatsheko Mosito, that journey began in 2008 at YFM, a station that defined youth culture and urban music. What started as an exciting opportunity quickly became a lifelong calling.

“When I started on April 1, 2008, I had no idea this would shape my life for almost two decades,” she recalls. Initially a Boston Media House student preparing for a career in journalism, she soon realized her path wasn’t in hard news. Instead, she was drawn to something uplifting - music radio.

Ten years ago, I had a vision for my life. But life had other ideas,

At YFM, she honed her skills before transitioning to Radio 2000, where she spent the next 13 years refining her craft. Producing and presenting allowed her to explore new dimensions of broadcasting, deepening her connection with audiences. By 2016, she experienced a moment of clarity - it was time to focus solely on music radio. “It was more of a spiritual alignment than a career decision,” she explains. “Music isn’t just entertainment—it’s a tool for transformation.”

For Mosito, music has always been more than just sound. “It’s a divination tool,” she says. “It has the power to shift energy, to heal, and to move people emotionally.” She no longer just played music—she curated experiences, creating meaningful connections through sound.

Beyond radio, her work with Channel Africa has allowed her to engage in discussions about Africa’s future. She believes in focusing on solutions rather than problems. “If we keep seeing Africa as a disaster, we’ll never move forward,” she says. “We need to focus on possibilities and what we can build.”

Her ability to navigate multiple spaces - music, culture, and current affairs - has become her greatest strength. “For years, I thought I had to choose. Now I realize my gift is being able to exist in multiple conversations at once.”

Looking ahead, she isn’t focused on rigid plans but trusts that the next chapter will unfold naturally. “Ten years ago, I had a vision for my life. But life had other ideas,” she reflects. “Now, I focus on the work and trust what comes next.”

Seventeen years in, she toasts to the journey so far - and to whatever lies ahead. “Let’s see where this goes,” she says with a smile.
